In April 2003, The Royal Society published the results of investigations carried out by the Roslin Institute, a biotechnology research establishment located near Edinburgh, into the perception of pain in fish. Dr. Sneddon’s rhetoric was hard hitting, as might be expected from someone apparently a political ally of an extremist animal rights group:"Really, it's kind of a moral question,” she stated. “Is your angling more important than the pain to the fish?"A fair point, if just a bit hypocritical, bearing in mind the sort of animal experiments Dr. Sneddon had herself conducted in the furtherment of her career - a point repeatedly missed amid the media furore that followed:Quite apart from the bee venom experiment, in the course of her flagship research project, Dr. Sneddon had also used the technique of DECEREBRATION, a process in which live anaesthetised rainbow trout had had their skulls cut open before the optic and olfactory lobes, together with the cerebellum, were removed from the rest of the brain using a vacuum pump. Others seem to think that PETA is like Sinn Fein to the ALF’s Provisional IRA, but what they don’t quite get is a handful of easily led cranks doesn’t amount to the collective aspirations of three quarters of the population of a small country. They lack any credible level of support, so the prospect of any UK government inviting them (or any of their friends) for so much as a round of bu88ering is non-existent. Quite apart from the revenue angling contributes to the EA through rod licences, three to four million anglers in the UK equals 3-4 million votes. PETA don’t have half that many worldwide and Sir Paul McCartney doesn’t even pay UK tax…

We'll say this much for PETA's leaders: they've got an answer for everything. If you write to PETA and ask them about our "PETA Kills Animals" website, they'll send back a form letter including some of the lame excuses below:
"Thank you for contacting PETA about the 'PETA Kills Animals' billboard and the accompanying promotions for it … PETA can't afford billboards in Times Square, so we're grateful for the opportunity that this one provides to discuss the animal overpopulation crisis."
PETA's lying. The organization has erected not one but two Times Square billboards (one in 1997 and another in 2003), both featuring silicone beauty Pamela Anderson. "We do not run a traditional shelter. In fact, we refer every healthy, cute, young animal we can to shelters."
Uh oh. There they go again. In 2003 PETA reported transferring exactly one animal to another shelter. In 2002 PETA transferred just two animals. Click here to see the documents PETA filed with the state of Virginia. Since 1998, PETA has transferred a total of 130 animals to other shelters, and 21 of them were chickens. By comparison, it killed over 10,000 animals.
"[M]ost of the animals we receive are broken beings for whom euthanasia is, without a doubt, the most humane option."
PETA kills 85 percent of the animals it takes in, and finds adoptive homes for just 14 percent. By contrast, the Norfolk SPCA, whose shelter is located less than 4 miles from PETA's headquarters, found adoptive homes for 73 percent of its animals in 2003. It’s rather hard to believe that the animals entrusted to PETA are any more likely to be “broken beings.” Dana Cheek, the former (and most recent) director of the Norfolk SPCA, wrote to us recently:
I often receive phone calls from frantic people who have surrendered their pets to PETA with the understanding that PETA will "find them a good home." Many of them are led to believe that the animals will be taken to a nearby shelter. Little do they know that the pets are killed in the PETA van before they even pull away from the pet owner's home … PETA refuses to surrender animals they obtain to area shelters for rehoming. If only the celebrity "deep-pocket" donors on the west coast knew that their donations were going to kill adoptable cats and dogs here in Norfolk.
PETA talks a good game about caring for animals, but seems uninterested in saving the only creatures it actually has contact with. If PETA were sincere, it could use its incredible wealth to buy a huge plot of land where its thousands of victims could live out their natural lives. Instead, these animals meet PETA's hypocrisy head-on, in the form of "tough love."

Much as I love Forums, they can have a negative effect on your opinions at times.
This of course depends on the type of Forum.
I belong to a local one http://www.neforum2.co.uk/ which is fun, has a vast array of topics, and has just hit the 800 members mark.


There are many interesting people on there...and one or two arseholes.... so an accurate portrayal of British Life in 2008 methinks.

Just started this Blogging lark!

Well.... It's 2008 (April)... And it's been bloody Snowing!!
Matthew (my 10 yr old son) is currently off school on his Easter Break.... My Wifey is off too...which means I have to look like I am working, and not spend half the day on my Flight Simulator!
Recently confirmed that we are going to have a weeks holiday in Lincolnshire, at a holiday/fishing type place, with my friends, Paul & Sandy Maltby, and their son Adam...Whom Matthew has also previously had a holiday with!
Matt is looking forward to sharing a room with Adam, and showing him the entire 3 series of 'Bottom' which he has on DVD..... I have been accused of introducing my son to innapropriate, sexist, and vulgar humour since he was young.
This is true, I admit it...and I appologise to Lesbians everywhere, for turning yet another Male, into a Crude, Toilet humour loving, Binge drinker!

Been a quiet sorta week last week...but the Computer fixing side of things has perked up today.
Was all over the place....Tynemouth, High Spen, Lemington to name but a few. (well...all of them actually)...... Max (my adorable Collie) has been a little 'off colour' today...... Not his usual self, and been a bit quiet.
I think he is pissed off with this weather too...He likes nothing better than playing with his 'Hoff' in the Garden, on a warm, sunny day.... But it's too cold for him. because, unlike most Collie-Dogs...he is a big, soft shite!..... Reckon he is a Southerner at heart!...No wonder the Geordie dogs growl at him!.... Still, he fucking OWNS Hasslehoff!!

Actually had Him and Jack (our Silly old Cat) on the bed together, for at least five minutes the other day!... I was stroking Jack, and then patting Max.
Jack liked it, but Max was very uneasy about the whole thing...he looked quite worried by the fact that he is only a mere 16 times bigger than Jack, with a facefull of sharp teeth!...still, they say that Cats always end up ruling the roost! (which explains why Female Humans relate so well to them!)
